What: A free brunch for the community plus invitation to a multilingual prayer for peace.
Objective
1) To offer connection and fellowship to those who might otherwise be spending Christmas morning alone.
2) To strengthen our community by joining together across cultures in our shared commitment to peace.
Significance
1) No Hate in Huron’s first public event as a newly incorporated non-profit.
2) No Hate in Huron’s first official collaboration with our friends at Maple Leaf Motel, welcoming friends and family from as far away as Mississauga.
Challenges
A complex undertaking that was made smooth and seamless under the amazing leadership of our friends at Maple Leaf Motel.
Result
1) Together as a community, we provided a warm and caring Christmas brunch to approximately 140 people.
2) For those so inclined, we joined together for a beautiful multilingual Prayer for Peace in the sacristy. Prayers, poems, and historic writings in the name of peace were shared in numerous languages. In a spirit of togetherness, curiosity and wonder, we shared knowledge of our various faith traditions.
Future Implications
There was a strong informal consensus that we would like to continue this tradition in future years.
